FUND RAISER

SATURDAY, MAPLE -- Faith Lutheran Church of Maple plans its annual rummage, bake and plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Maple Community Center on Highway 2. The youth group will sell lunch and refreshments. Matching funds will be applied for from Thrivent Financial.

MONDAY, BRULE -- The annual meeting of the Waino Everrest Cemetery Association is at 6 p.m. in the Brule Valley Apartments meeting room. There will be election of officers and a cemetery cleanup day planned, as well as plans for the annual fundraising dinner to be held on Memorial Day weekend at the Brule Town Hall. Following the Cemetery Association meeting, the annual meeting of the Waino Pioneer Chapel will be held. There will be election of officers, and a discussion on maintenance and fundraising for the historic building.

BIRD WATCHING

MAY 12, GRANTSBURG -- Crex Meadows Wildlife Area in Grantsburg is hosting a "bird festival" May 12. The Department of Natural Resources and the Friends of Crex are co-sponsoring the event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival coincides with International Migratory Bird Day and is open to the public. Visitors will also take part in the grand opening of the new wildlife exhibits. EXHIBIT

ONGOING, DULUTH -- Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth unveiled a new exhibit Thursday when Pica the magpie was officially introduced to the public. The black-billed magpie is part of the large Corvidae bird family, which includes the American crow, common raven and blue jay, among others.
