TODAY, LAKE NEBAGAMON -- Books autographed by famous authors, including U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, will be offered at tonight's "Famous Author's Book Auction and Wine Tasting" to benefit the Imogene Mcgrath Memorial LIbrary in Lake Nebagamon. The event takes place at the Lake Nebagamon Auditorium from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door. A letter signed by Obama will accompany his two books, "Dreams of My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope."
SATURDAY, WASHBURN/BAYFIELD -- Anne Crooks, author of "Tales of Spirit Mountain," makes appearances at two locations. First, she'll be at the Washburn Public Library at 10 a.m. and What Goes 'Round Bookstore in Bayfield 1-3 p.m. to talk about the early people who lived in the Lake Superior region and her experiences in writing about them. Following her talk she will be available to sign books.
AUG. 2, SUPERIOR -- The 1950 graduating class from Superior Central High School holds its annual luncheon at noon at the Shack. Reservations should be made by calling Lois Lundberg in Hayward at (715) 634-4998.
AUG. 3-4, SUPERIOR -- Reservations can still be made for the 40-year reunion activities for the 1967 graduating class from Superior Cathedral High School. The reunion begins with a Vista King dinner and cruise departing Duluth on Aug. 3, followed by a 9 p.m. get-together at C's Lounge. On Aug. 4, a group photo will be taken when classmates/spouses attend a 4:30 p.m. Mass at Cathedral of Christ the King. For reservations and details, call Sue (Mencel) Hoffman, 392-3025.
FRIDAY, SUPERIOR -- The University of Wisconsin-Superior's Schrieber Observatory offers the public an opportunity to see galaxies, planets, star clusters and nebulae on Friday nights. The observatory atop Barstow Hall is accessible by entering through the breezeway between Barstow and McCaskill halls and taking the stairs or elevator to the third floor. Admission is free. SATURDAY, SUPERIOR -- The ninth annual Lake Superior Wooden and Classic Boat Festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Barker's Island Marina.
