Walker’s campaign says presidential campaign debt paid off

Gov. Scott Walker’s campaign says Walker has paid off the remainder of his presidential campaign debt. 

Walker Political Adviser Joe Fadness wrote in a memo to the governor that his fundraising in the final month of 2016 had wiped out his remaining debt.  Walker’s presidential campaign lasted roughly 70 days from start to finish. When he left the race, Walker had racked up $1.2 million in debt.

While some candidates for president let their debt linger, Walker’s campaign steadily paid it off.

"Any potential re-election bid would now tap an unmatched donor base," Fadness wrote, also noting that Walker had "some 30 fundraising events planned for the first half of 2017 alone."

The memo from Fadness also said Walker had just $59,000 in his state campaign account.

Walker has said he’ll formally announce whether he’ll seek a third term after he’s finished with the next state budget.
