Volunteers are tackling a variety of community service projects throughout the Twin Ports on June 27 as part of the United Way Day of Caring.

A key focus for this year's Day of Caring is school readiness. Studies show that 50 percent of Minnesota kindergartners are not prepared for school. United Way aims to mobilize resources to increase the number of children ready to learn when they enter kindergarten.

The Day of Caring Volunteer Kick Off Rally runs 9-10 a.m. at the YWCA, 202 W. Second St., Duluth. Volunteer opportunities are still available in Duluth and Superior. Visit www.northlandunitedways.org and click on "Volunteer" or call 726-4770.
