Superior area churches opened their doors while businesses, stores, taverns and schools closed for the day when Victory in Europe was declared by President Truman. V-E Day is the featured episode of "Radio Superior" May 8, 1945 on KUWS 91.3 FM in Superior and 102.9 FM in Ashland.

Hosted by radio veterans Jack McKenna and Lew Martin, the hour-long special is one of three episodes leading up to and including V-E Day to be aired at 5:30 p.m. Friday. There were no celebrations locally with Germany's surrender because the war against Japan was continuing in the Pacific.

This episode also includes the original surrender report by Associated Press correspondent Edward Kennedy from Reims, France, the site of the German surrender to General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

"Radio Superior" airs episodes every Friday at 5:30 p.m. on Wisconsin Public Radio station KUWS-FM.
