Nine University of Wisconsin-Superior students plan to travel to Montana later this month to help build affordable housing during the university's annual alternative spring break trip.
Next week, the students will spend their spring break working alongside other volunteers to build simple, decent and affordable houses as part of the Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge. The students chose to work in Kalispell, a popular resort city where high-priced housing is beyond the reach of many local residents.
Alternative Spring Break is a popular learning and service experience at UWS. It offers civic-minded students an opportunity to do something useful with their spring break while seeing another part of the country.
Students participating include Brittney Kemi, elementary education major from Cloquet, Cory Mareno, criminal justice major from Superior, Sarah Esher, elementary education major from Osceola, Wis., Emily Johnson, elementary education from Duluth, Ben Mooney, history major from Spooner, Wis., Jasmyn Marten, elementary education major from Rhinelander, Wis., Ryan Guthrie, undecided major from Duluth, Tony Willette, elementary education major from Wells, Minn., Cody Chaffee, criminal justice major from Springfield, Ohio.
