The Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters announced the 14 recipients of the 2018 Academy Fellows Award.
Among the recipients is author and English professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, Anthony Bukoski.
Bukoski has published five short-story collections, including "Time Between Trains," "Polonaise" and "Children of Strangers," and a collection of selected stories entitled "Head of the Lakes" will be published this year. His short stories have appeared in New Letters, The Literary Review, Western Humanities Review, Image, Quarterly West, New Orleans Review, Arcana (Poland), Akcent (Poland), and many other journals; his essays in Critique, Literature Film Quarterly, Canadian Literature and on Bertolt Brecht in Great World Writers, an encyclopedia. Bukoski's essays and stories have also been published in anthologies from the University of Iowa Press, the University of Wisconsin Press and Columbia University Press in its Eastern European Monograph Series.
Bukoski has been awarded Outstanding Achievement Awards from the Wisconsin Library Association three times. He has also won the Anne Powers Book-length Fiction Award from the Council for Wisconsin Writers three times. The Robert E. Gard Wisconsin Idea Foundation presented Bukoski its 2005 Award. In 2002, the same year he was named the R.V. Cassill Fellow in Fiction by the Christopher Isherwood Foundation, he was awarded the first Literary Prize given by the Polish Institute of Houston.
Born and raised in Superior, Bukoski is an alumnus of what was then Wisconsin State University-Superior. He has an Master of Arts degree from Brown University, and an Master of Fine Arts and doctorate from the University of Iowa.
