The University of Wisconsin-Superior will celebrate with the students and the community in a grand opening ceremony for the new lobby and renovations at Ross and Hawkes Hall on Friday. An open house will be held from 3-5 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
The approximately 15 million dollar project, funded entirely by student fees opened in the fall for the new school year and the Link connecting the two residence halls was just recently completed.
The project will result in the creation of 96 suite-style spaces, 80 single spaces and 264 double spaces. The newly renovated residence halls will be able to house 440 students--that's up about 200 students from the number that Ross Hall could formally accommodate. Work on two floors at Ross Hall still continues.
The project converted Hawkes Hall from an office building back to its original status as a residence hall. The buildings were built in the 1960s and in the 1980s Hawkes Hall was no longer needed as a residence hall and was rented out to community organizations.
The halls are located next to each other on Catlin Avenue south of the main campus. Each floor in the two residence halls have a kitchen, laundry room and lounge.

The lobby that connects the two buildings called The Link includes a lounge area that contains a fireplace, couches and a front desk area. A reception will be held following the event.
