Four University of Wisconsin-Superior art students took home top honors April 2 in judging during the university's Student Honors Art Exhibit.
The exhibit is held each year by UWS' Department of Visual Arts. Derrick Burbul, a UWS alumnus who now teaches art at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, was the guest judge of this year's exhibit.
Students receiving Best of Show awards are:
- Amy Rusch Mack, Lake Nebagamon, copper work titled "Vessel."
- Sheri Niemeyer, Inwood, Iowa, silver gelatin print titled "Arbor Day."
- Hayley Johnson, Superior, mixed media work titled "Crows."
- Amy Varsek, Ely, Minn., mixed media untitled work.
Students receiving honorable mention:
- Sawa Senzaki, Fujisawa, Japan, pit-fired clay piece titled "Gart 2."
- Grace Meyer, Bruno, Minn., color print titled "Moment."
- Chelsey Miller, Superior, collage titled "Poem."
- Carie Thuringer, Hoyt Lakes, Minn., untitled silver gelatin print.
- Katie Story of Belpre, Ohio, mixed media untitled work.
- Teruyasu Miyazawa, Tokyo, Japan, mixed media titled "Spring, Winter, Summer on Wisconsin Point."
- Dan LaPlante, Duluth, untitled mixed media.
- Robert Reins, Duluth, acrylic painting titled "Grandparents, 1920."
- Lesley Ross, Winneconne, Wis., oil painting titled "Break Through."
- Deborah Waldron, Two Harbors, oil and pastel titled "Nude Study -- Yellow."
- Colie Sawinski, Duluth, mixed sculpture titled "Found Beauty."
- Kate Ratkovich, Gleason, Wis., untitled silver gelatin print.
- Jamie Lund, Cloquet, Minn., digital photo titled "Nature."
- Kim Ferdon, Duluth, silver gelatin print titled "Trees Cubist Thoughts."
