The Big Ten Conference released the broadcast schedules and game times for the league's women's basketball teams. Wisconsin will have a total of nine national exposures including eight Big Ten Network games, and will host Ohio State Feb. 10 in an ESPN2 game.
It is the ninth time the Badgers have appeared on ESPN or ESPN2. The last time was a 53-47 loss at No. 15 Michigan State on Feb. 12, 2006.
The complete women's basketball schedule features 17 home games and seven teams that appeared in the NCAA tournament last year. It also takes on quite a different appearance with the addition of two more Big Ten Conference contests for a total of 18, and the advent of the Big Ten Network which has placed games on days other than the usual Thursday/Sunday rotation of the past.
The Big Ten women's composite schedule includes 55 regular-season and nine post-season games broadcast on the new Big Ten Network, an increase of 200 percent in television coverage for women's basketball. Most of the women's games are scheduled on Thursdays and Sundays in the first quarter. There is a 7 p.m. local Monday night game of the week that will be the cornerstone of the Big Ten Network's Women's Sports Night series. The Badgers appear twice on Monday night at home with Minnesota on Jan. 7, and at Northwestern Feb. 18.
The Badgers open the Big Ten Conference season Dec. 28 at Purdue in a game on the Big Ten Network. Other BTN games include UW-Green Bay Dec. 11; at Ohio State Jan. 20; Northwestern Jan. 27; at Minnesota Feb. 23 and at Michigan Feb. 28. The Big Ten Tournament will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network March 6-8, at Conseco Field House in Indianapolis. The finals are on ESPN on Sunday, March 9.
Now in her fifth season, Badger coach Lisa Stone is excited about the schedule and the national television exposure her program will receive.
"The Big Ten Network provides national exposure. It is an opportunity for the University and Wisconsin Athletics to be showcased across the nation," Stone said. "We are also excited the Big Ten Network will televise more women's basketball games, and also, fans across the country will be able to stay in tune with Badger athletics. In addition, being selected for the ESPN2 game shows the respect that our program has gained nationally."
