The men accused of injuring four University of Wisconsin-Superior hockey players during an altercation behind the 3rd Base Bar in September will go to trial on the same day.
Superior residents Jesse Michael Grew, 24, and Angelo Michael Garza, 22, both have trials set for Feb. 13 in Douglas County Circuit Court. While the co-defendants will face the jury at the same time, the trials were not consolidated.
Grew's trial date was set Friday after he pleaded not guilty to two felony charges of substantial battery and one felony charge of second degree reckless endangerment. He is accused of punching Joe Bluhm and slashing Michael Bickley with a knife. Bluhm suffered a concussion and laceration that required 15 staples to close, according to the criminal complaint. Bickley's arm was sliced to the bone with 11 of the 13 tendons severed. The injury effectively ended the senior forward's college hockey career.
Garza pleaded not guilty to two felony charges of second degree reckless endangerment at an arraignment in October. He also faces two misdemeanor battery charges. Garza is accused of stabbing two UWS students -- Ryan Kuntz and Seth Reda -- with a knife during the incident. Kuntz was cut in the abdomen and Reda was cut near his right eye, according to the criminal complaint.
