Construction will soon get underway on U.S. highways 2/53 in Superior’s Allouez and Itasca neighborhoods.

Before the work begins, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is conducting a public teleconference Tuesday, March 30, to discuss the resurfacing project between 29th and 53rd avenues east on East Second Street.

During the call, WisDOT staff and contractors will discuss the construction schedule, detours, access and local traffic through the construction zone. City representatives will also be available to provide information and people will have a chance to ask questions about the project.

The project gets underway this spring and is expected to be complete this fall. Work to repair concrete pavement and curb and gutter, and grind for an asphalt over will be staged to keep the road open.

Storm sewer work repair inlets and manholes will also be completed and curb ramps will be installed, replaced or updated where feasible to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The traffic signals at 39th Avenue East will also be replaced.
