TRACK: Yellowjackets begins its outdoor season

The University of Wisconsin-Superior track and field team opened the outdoor season at the Blugold Invite Saturday in Eau Claire.

Sophomore Katee Rosburg was the top finisher for the Yellowjacket women as she finished third in the 800-meter run in a new school record time of time of 2:16.86. She beat the old record held by Shamaine Martin of 2:17.62 set in 1995.

Junior Sheri Niemeyer also posted a top five finish in the hammer throw as she finished fifth with a throw of 151 feet. She bettered her own school record with the throw by more than seven feet.

The 4x400 relay team also set a new school record as they finished ninth in a time of 4:14.68, beating the old record of 4:15.28 set in 2005.

The team also enjoyed success in the 10,000-meter run as sophomore Catherine Schmitt finished seventh in a time of 45:44.16 and senior Nicole Uchal was eighth in 47:23.56.

Senior Cori Glau also posted an eighth-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 101-08.

For the men, junior Matt Kramer led UWS with a pair of first-place finishes. The Cloquet native won the 1,500-meter run with a new school record time of 3:59.21. He bettered his own school record, set in 2005, by nearly three seconds. He also won the 800 in a time of 1:54.26. Junior Scott Eisenach also placed 10th in the event in a time of 1:59.32.

Sophomore Rob Tatinger placed sixth in the pole vault with a height of 13-5.75 and junior Kyle Magnuson finished seventh in the high jump with a height of 5-10.75.

The 4x100 relay finished 10th in a time of 47.34.
