The Superior High School boys track team finished second in the Lake Superior Conference Championships Tuesday in Hermantown, and the girls team finished fourth.
The Spartan boys had 132 points, while Proctor finished first with 181 points. The girls finished fourth with 80 points, behind Hermantown, Cloquet and Duluth Central.
Two relay teams finished first for the boys. The 1,600 relay team of Dustin Ritchie, Zach Colvin, David Smith and Nate Hendry finished in a time of 3:35.90 to edge Proctor by less than two seconds. The 3,200 relay team won by a more comfortable margin, almost 20 seconds, as Ben Waters, Andy Radzak, Hendry and Smith finished in 8:21.13.
Waters was also the only individual on the boys or girls team to get a first-place finish. He won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:03.16. Ritchie also had some strong finishes, placing second in the 400 and third in the 200. Jesse Covill and Joe Reichert finished second and third respectively in the high jump, and Spike Gralewski was second in the discus.
The Spartan girls also had a winning relay team. The 800 relay team of Kelly Stipetich, Nikki Landin, Lindsey Lindstrom and Taylor Kosey finished first in a time of 1:50.69. The Superior girls finished second in the 1,600 relay.

Stipetich also finished second in two individual events. She took second in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Lindstrom finished third in the high jump.
The Spartans will next compete in the WIAA regionals Monday in River Falls. The top four finishers in each event qualify for the sectional competition on May 24 at Eau Claire North. The top three sectional finishers will then advance to the state track meet June 1-2 in La Crosse.
