The Northwestern High School boys and girls track teams will advance many athletes to the sectional meet after an impressive showing at the WIAA Track & Field D2 Regional Meet Monday. The girls team finished first overall with 154 points and the boys finished fourth with 82 points.
In all, the Tigers will be sending athletes to compete in 23 events at the sectional meet.
The Tigers' relay teams did especially well at the meet, as both the boys and girls teams advanced in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 relays. The girls finished first in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays, second in the 4x800 and fourth in the 4x100. The boys finished first in the 4x800, second in the 4x400 and 4x200 and fourth in the 4x100.
Nicole Hughes finished first in the 400, while fellow Tiger Kristina Anderson finished second. In the 3,200, Amber Gurske placed first and Bethany Nelson finished fourth. Carinda Larson finished third in the 800.
Robbi Welty was fourth in the high jump. Laura Johnson placed fourth in the long jump. Sina Lindelof won the pole vault and Nikki Weyandt also advanced, placing third. Weyandt also advanced in the triple jump, placing second behind Northwestern's Serena Follis. Whitney Arnce won the shot put, and Emily Ross had a fourth place finish in the discus throw.

On the boys side, William Koepp won the 800 and Kelsey Moreland won the 1,600. Jordan Dunphy placed third in the 110 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles. In the pole vault, Zak Reynolds was third and Nathan Nelson was fourth.
