STEVENS POINT (AP) -- Stevens Point police say an observer apparently mistook a maintenance worker's tool for a rifle, prompting an hourlong lockdown at a hospital and junior high school.

Police received a call Monday about 10 a.m. reporting a man in the Saint Michael's Hospital parking garage carrying what appeared to be a gun.

Hospital spokeswoman Sarena Melotte says police asked hospital officials to lock down the hospital. She says they did so, asking patients not to enter or leave the facility. She says she's not aware of any emergency services that were interrupted.

The lockdown was lifted about 11 a.m.

Nearby P. J. Jacobs Junior High School was also locked down for about an hour. District Superintendent Steven Johnson says it was simply a precaution.
