The Northwestern High School boys basketball team defeated Cloquet in the championship game of the Mackey Invite Saturday night 65-50.
The Tigers had a two-point lead by the end of the first quarter and they extended their lead over the next two quarters. The Lumberjacks worked hard in the final quarter and managed to outscore the Tigers 19-17, but it wasn't enough to catch NHS (2-0)
Three Northwestern players scored in double figures with William Koepp leading the way with 17 points. Steven Tecker and Kelsey Moreland both added 16 points for the Tigers, and four other players also scored for NHS.
Ryan Erkila led the Lumberjacks in scoring with 10 points.
Deo Tecker, Steven Tecker, Koepp, Saul Falter and Moreland were named to the all-tournament team.

The Tigers host Hayward at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
