The Northwestern High School boys basketball team defeated Chetek 64-54 Friday night in Maple.

In the opening two quarters, the Tigers were only able to stay relatively even with Chetek as NHS claimed a 27-24 lead at halftime. The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game.

The Tigers scored 21 points to Chetek's six, giving NHS a 48-30 lead. Chetek faced a scoring threat from every NHS player on the floor as six different Tigers scored in the third quarter, with none making more than five points.

In the final quarter, Chetek launched a comeback, scoring 24 points, but NHS scored 16 points of its own to hold on for the 64-54 win. Mike Schaff, who led Chetek with 23 points, scored 10 in the fourth quarter.

For NHS, Steve Tecker led the team with 19 points. Lee Brown and Aaron Corry also finished the game in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Donnie Hissa added eight points for the Tigers, John Darwin had seven and P.J. Freeman scored five points.
