Third child sex assault charge filed against Superior gymnastics coach

Victim came forward after seeing news of the coach's arrest.

A new child sex assault charge has been filed in Douglas County Circuit Court against a Superior gymnastics coach accused of sexually assaulting two teenage students.

The complaint against George Francis Deppa, 47, of Superior, alleges one count of sexual assault of a child under 16 years old.

The new charge alleges that Deppa, a coach at Twin Ports Gymnastics, sexually touched a third student during a private coaching session in July. The victim reported the incident to her parents after seeing news coverage of Deppa’s arrest for sexual assault.

Deppa made his initial appearance on third child sex charge May 24, the same day the complaint was filed. A $50,000 cash bond was set for Deppa and he was ordered to have no contact with the reported victim, no contact with minors and no contact with the Superior School District. He remained in custody at the Douglas County Jail on Wednesday, May 26.

Deppa was charged May 5 with two counts of sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age and one count of exposing genitals. He is accused of sexually touching two teenage students and trying to “make out” with them while they were out for rides in his boat and during sleepovers at his Superior home, according to the complaint.

A separate cash bail of $50,000 was set in the May 5 case and Deppa was ordered to have no contact with the two victims.

If convicted, Deppa faces up to 40 years of imprisonment on each sex assault charge. His next court appearance was set for June 2.
