Agricultural engineering expert talks about 'The Future of Food'

Amy Kaleita, an expert in agricultural engineering, speaks at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 21, in the Mitchell Auditorium on the College of St. Scholastica campus.

Kaleita's talk, "Conventional Farming and Environmental Protection," is the third in the College's Alworth Center for Peace and Justice Lecture Series for 2008-2009. The series examines the complex food issues of hunger and obesity, safety, production and distribution, science and technology, politics, and economics.

Kaleita teaches at Iowa State University in Ames. She has received several awards for excellence in teaching both at Iowa State and the University of Illinois where she earned her doctorate in agricultural engineering.

A follow-up discussion is held at 7 p.m. Jan 26, at Peace Church, 1111 N. 11th St., led by John Fisher-Merritt of the Lake Superior Sustainable Farming Association.
