TENNIS: SHS takes care of Hunters, improve to 4-1

The Superior High School boys tennis team defeated the Duluth Denfeld Hunters for the second time this season, the latest 6-1 Tuesday evening at the SHS tennis courts.

The Superior High School boys tennis team defeated the Duluth Denfeld Hunters for the second time this season, the latest 6-1 Tuesday evening at the SHS tennis courts.

The Spartans, now 4-1 in dual matches on the season, won three of four singles matches and all three doubles events, including the No. 1 match where Chris Berchild and James LaPine swept Mark Soderberg and Dan Zapp 6-0, 6-1.

"Chris and James put together another good match, they are starting to play real well together," SHS coach Pete Conley said. "They're both very consistent and aggressive players which makes them a tough team to beat."

Winning matches 6-0, 6-0 for the Spartans were Nils Bergman at No. 4 singles and Adam Johnson and Logan Carpenter at No. 3 doubles.

The Spartans are at Duluth East today and host Duluth Central Thursday. Both matches begin at 4:15 p.m.
