Temporary Superior polling site becomes permanent

When voters head back to the polls in 2022, people in Superior’s 6th and 10th districts will head to Government Center to cast their ballot.

The Superior City Council permanently changed the polling location after voters used the Government Center because the Salvation Army closed its facilities nationwide to outside groups during the pandemic.

The Salvation Army is more centrally located, but City Clerk Terri Kalan said the Government Center better meets the needs of voters and election workers and avoids conflicts with the Salvation Army’s operations.

Councilor Lindsey Graskey, who represents the 10th District, said she initially had some reservations about making the change permanent because the Government Center is further away for many voters in her district. However, after looking at alternative locations and polling some of her constituents, she agreed the Government Center was a better alternative.

“It just made sense to centralize in a place that a lot of people knew,” Graskey said.
