Sylvia E. Johnson, 90, of Brook St., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, in St. Luke's Hospice, surrounded by her family. She was born on Sept. 8, 1917, to Andrew and Kari Barsness in Fertile, Iowa. She grew up in Poplar and has been a longtime...

Sylvia E. Johnson, 90, of Brook St., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, in St. Luke's Hospice, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1917, to Andrew and Kari Barsness in Fertile, Iowa. She grew up in Poplar and has been a longtime Duluth resident. She married Edwin Johnson on April 3, 1943, in Duluth, and they spent 56 years together. She attended Lincoln Park Community Church and also Northwood United Methodist Church in Esko.

Sylvia enjoyed baking, having coffee with friends, shopping, taking care of her cats, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and a sister.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen (Chuck) Fredson of Esko; two grandsons, Marc of Seattle and Kris of St. Paul; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A special thank-you to the caring staff on 4 West and the hospice unit at St. Luke's.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home and continues from 3 p.m. until the 3:30 p.m. funeral service Saturday in Northwood United Methodist Church, 62 Highway 61 West, Esko. The Rev. Gregory Ciesluk officiates. Burial is in Oneota Cemetery.
