Suspicious package leads to drug charges

A Superior woman who allegedly received two pounds of marijuana in the mail is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Douglas County Circuit Court.

A Superior woman who allegedly received two pounds of marijuana in the mail is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Douglas County Circuit Court.

Lindsay Rae Boustead, 37, faces felony possession with intent to deliver marijuana. She made an initial appearance in court June 9 and was released on a $2,000 signature bond. She later waived the time limits for her preliminary hearing.

According to the criminal complaint:

A package, which was sent to Boustead's residence from Washington state, was first flagged as suspicious by an airport police detective in Minneapolis.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office called in Deputy Brian Witt and his K9 partner, Talon, who indicated controlled substances were in the package. It was found to contain nearly two pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $8,000.

The package was delivered to Boustead's address on Ohio Avenue on June 7. Investigators observed her arrive in a vehicle and enter the house by the back entrance. Shortly after, she opened the front door and slid the package containing marijuana into the residence.

Detectives executed a search warrant and found the unopened package in the home. In addition, they found drug paraphernalia, a portable scale and jewelers' baggies in the residence.

If convicted, Boustead faces up to 10 years of imprisonment and A $25,000 fine.
