An area youth was among the 254 youths that recently completed the 16th Annual Wisconsin National Guard Youth Camp.
Christopher Edstorm of Superior attended Youth Camp Aug. 1-3 at Volk Field and Fort McCoy where he joined kids from throughout the state learning about the Armed Forces and the kind of training their parents, grandparents, siblings, other family members, friends or neighbors experience. The camp also gave participants an opportunity to make friends with those that understand what it is like to have a parent in the military.
The participants slept in barracks or tents, ate in military dining facilities and played in a simulated military environment. Some even had the opportunity to eat a Meal Ready-to-Eat. But it's not all work and no play. The campers participated in a variety of events including swimming, playing games, and learning to march and sing cadence. They also completed confidence building activities such as obstacle courses and rappelling.
The camp was run by more than 200 volunteers including members from all branches of service. More information about the Wisconsin National Guard Family Program may be found online at http://wingfam.org or by calling 1-800-292-9464.
