Superior police squads crash while responding to overdose call

Both officers involved were treated and released.

Two Superior Police Department squad cars were severely damaged after crashing into each other Sunday, July 28, in Superior’s East End neighborhood while the officers were responding to a possible drug overdose.

Both officers were treated and released from St. Mary’s-Essentia Hospital in Superior, according to a release from Assistant Chief Matt Markon.

Three officers responded to the call in separate squad cars with lights and sirens activated. Two of the squads crashed into each other at about 10:10 p.m. at the intersection of 22nd Avenue East and East Second Street. No other vehicles were involved.

It was raining and the road surface was wet at the time of the crash. Both officers were wearing their seat belts.

The circumstances of the crash are under investigation, according to Markon.
