A Superior man will spend 30 days in jail for groping two women at an apartment building in the 1500 block of Hammond Avenue this summer.
John Christopher Wehmanen, 47, pled no contest last week in Douglas County Circuit Court to fourth-degree sexual assault and an amended charge of disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to one year of probation and 30 days in jail. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victims, undergo a chemical dependency evaluation and maintain absolute sobriety.
According to the criminal complaint:
On June 21, Wehmanen grabbed the crotch of a female tenant who had just walked downstairs, telling her "I can do better than your boyfriend."
She told Superior police the incident lasted about five seconds.

Shortly after, Wehmanen grabbed the crotch of another female tenant who was standing outside the building watching a traffic stop. He finally let go of her after she and her son, who came out of the apartment, yelled at him to stop. They told police a man standing across the street at the time came over and punched Wehmanen as well.
When police responded to the incident at 1:40 a.m., Wehmanen was intoxicated and appeared to be bleeding from his mouth and nose area.
