Superior gymnastics coach pleads not guilty to child sex assault
George Deppa faces additional sex assault charges in St. Louis County.
A Superior gymnastics coach accused of having sexual contact with three teenage students pleaded not guilty to the charges during a hearing in Douglas County Circuit Court Friday, July 16.
George Francis Deppa, 47, of Superior, faces three counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child and one count of exposing genitals or pubic area to a child, all felonies. He remained in custody at the Douglas County Jail Monday, July 19. Cash bail of $100,000 was set to cover both cases, and he was ordered to have no contact with any of the victims and no intentional contact with minors.

Deppa allegedly had sexual contact with three teenage gymnastics students. Two of the students told authorities the contact took place on Deppa’s boat and at his home. The third victim reported the contact took place during a gymnastics lesson.
The coach also has an active arrest warrant out of St. Louis County, Minnesota, where criminal sex assault charges involving a fourth minor victim were filed against him May 21. He faces two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in St. Louis County. Deppa has not made any court appearances in St. Louis County on the charges, according to online court records.
A jury trial for the Douglas County charges was scheduled for March 22-24, 2022, with a pre-trial conference March 4. If convicted, Deppa faces a maximum penalty of up to 40 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $100,000 on each of the sex assault charges.
