The Superior men's and senior bowling all-stars completed a sweep over Duluth with victories Sunday at Duluth's Country Lanes North.

Duluth leads the matched 21-15 and 5-4, but both Superior squads won for the third straight year, the men 3,264-3,223, and the seniors 1,006-972.

In the men's event, Superior was led by Randy Merrill's 695 series. Steve Jansson was a pin back at 694, followed by Matt Meyers, 637; Brian Schlais, 634; and Tim Christianson Jr., 604. Pat Erickson was an alternate for Superior.

Eric Kuschner led Duluth with a 716 series. He was followed by Mike Bellefuille, 657; Jason Warner, 635; Jerry Baker, 611; and Neil Busch, 604. Mike Martens was Duluth's alternate.

Team Superior led after the first match 1,149-1,092. Jansson's 279 game led Superior and Busch had a 232 high game for Duluth.

Superior increased its lead to 84 pins with a 1,038-1,011 advantage in game two. Merrill was high bowler with a 268 game while Kuschner had a 246 for Duluth.

Duluth made a comeback in the third match with a 1,120 total and Belllefuille's 269 game, but Superior held on with a 1,077, which was helped out with Jansson punching out a 238 high game for Superior.

In senior action, Doug Sorenson led Superior with a 669 series. Bill Peterson was next at 645 and Roger Christianson rolled a 605. Dennis "Smutz" Szymonowicz, Lee Tanula and John Cahill all bowled two games with scores of 403, 336 and 383, respectively.

Superior led the senior match after the first game, 1,015-966, with Peterson's 230 high game for Superior and Glenn Maus' 256 tops for Duluth.

Duluth won game two 1,033-1,020 behind a 256 game by Ron LaLiberte. Peterson again led Superior with a 235 game as Superior's overall lead fell to 36 points.

Superior pulled out the victory by winning game three 1,006-972.

The border battle for bragging rights will be held in Superior next year.
