A July 4 fire in the town of Summit left a family of three and their dog homeless.
The blaze was reported shortly after noon on the Fourth of July along County Highway A.
The Summit Volunteer Fire Department responded with aid from the town of Superior and Oakland fire departments. No injuries were reported, according to Summit Fire Chief Steve Fegraeus.

Although the home was a total loss, Fegraeus said firefighters were able to help the family salvage some of their possessions after the fire was knocked down. The cause of the blaze, which started in the kitchen area, remains under investigation, but Fegraeus said it does not appear to be suspicious.
The home was not insured and the Red Cross is assisting the family.
The day was a busy one for many volunteer firefighters and emergency responders in Douglas County, Fegraeus said. In addition to the Summit house fire, various departments responded to a motorcycle accident along County Road B, a grass fire in Parkland and an Oakland incident.
