Summer season begins soon

The Y Camp kicks off summer with a day of fishing for the community from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 2. Members of the Douglas County Fish and Game League and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will be on hand to make Take Your Child Fishing Day...

The Y Camp kicks off summer with a day of fishing for the community from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 2. Members of the Douglas County Fish and Game League and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will be on hand to make Take Your Child Fishing Day a success. The event is free, and a picnic lunch is provided. Call the YMCA at 392-5611 to register.

Canoe classes are offered from June 8-10 for ages 11 and older. The class costs $50 per person and includes meals and canoeing instruction.

Ten sessions of day camp for students in kindergarten through fifth grade start June 18. The week-long sessions include swimming, hiking, canoeing, cook-outs, games, field trips, and arts and crafts. Cost is $100 per week for members, $110 per week for nonmembers.

Kinder Kamp for youth ages 4-6 takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 25-29. Participants enjoy games, crafts, trail blazing, swimming and cookouts. Cost is $45 for members, $55 for nonmembers.

Middle school students in grades 6-8 can try their hand at canoeing, kayaking and orienteering during a series of three-day specialty camps. The kayaking camp takes place from July 10-12. Orienteering camp is offered July 31-Aug. 2. Canoeing camp takes place Aug. 14-16. Cost is $60 for members, $70 for nonmembers, per camp.
