Throw out the second period of Monday night's boys hockey game at Wessman Arena between Superior High School and Duluth East and it's a 2-1 win for the hometown Spartans.
Unfortunately, you have to count the second period, and the five unanswered goals the Greyhounds scored carried them to a 6-2 victory over the Spartans.
The win improves East to 12-5-3 while the Spartans fall to 11-7.
Brett Bukowski gave Superior a 1-0 lead 13:32 into the first period with the first goal, and point, of his varsity career.
The shot from the left point by the sophomore defenseman hit the left post then went in off the skate of East goaltender Joel Perlinger. Brady Uotinen also picked up his first varsity point with an assist, along with Gerald Mikel.

Duluth East answered with its five-goal second period.
Kenny Mellin scored two of the Greyhounds' goals and Zac Schendel, Kyle Lutzka and Dom Toninato added a goal apiece. Mellin's first goal was short-handed and the eventual game-winner.
Tyler Plunkett scored Superior's second goal when he picked off an East clearing attempt and put a shot over Perlinger's shoulder.
East got that goal back with Schendel's second goal of the year with 4:51. remaining.
Joel Pettingill finished with 44 saves for Superior and Perlinger had 14 saves for East.
The Spartans hit the road for games Friday and Saturday in Crookston, Minn. Superior will play Crookston on Friday and Jamestown, N.D. on Saturday in Crookston.
East hosts Apple Valley at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Heritage Center.
