Superior High School's Janelle Strewler carded an 82 to earn medalist honors and help the Spartans to a first-place tie at the Heart O' North Conference high school girls golf meet Wednesday in Spooner.

Superior finished tied for first place with Hayward on Wednesday with scores of 360, but the Hurricanes were the overall champion with 29 conference points.

The Spartans finished second overall with 24 points, while the Nothwestern Tigers, who were fourth on Wednesday, finished third overall with 22 points.

Strewler was joined on the HON All-Conference team by teammates Cassie Berg and Allison Gotelaere and Taylor Prior of Northwestern.

Other scores for Superior Wednesday were Berg, 86; Gotelaere, 94; Anne Tracy, 98; and Abbie Bronson, a non-counting 116.

"Both Janelle and Cassie had tremendous seasons and should be very proud of their all-conference accomplishment.

"It's very difficult to win the conference outright as an individual when your battling for conference points every match with one of your teammates."

Northwestern scores were Prior, 88; Yui Tabata, 98; Jordan and Nicolette Lindberg, 110s; and Hayley Botten, a non-counting 111.

"Taylor shot a solid 88 with back-to-back 44s to secure fourth place all-conference," NHS coach Stacy Burfield said. "It comes to no surprise she did well. She practices harder than anyone I know by taking every opportunity to better her game.

"All of the girls have come a long way this year. If they stay mentally tough and fight through the bad shots, they will continue to succeed."

Up next for the Spartans are WIAA regionals at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the New Richmond Golf Club. The Tigers' regional is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hayward Golf & Tennis.

The first four teams and top four individuals, who are not members of one of the top four teams, advance to their respective sectional tournament on Oct. 6.

Superior's sectional is at Eau Claire North, while Northwestern's sectional is at Amery.
