State funding available for Northland projects

Gov. Scott Walker on Monday released details of the state's capital budget.

The state's $1.1 billion spending plan to maintain and improve state facilities includes money for the renovation of Ross and Hawkes Halls at the University of Wisconsin-Superior and to replace the WHSA radio tower in Douglas County that is used by KUWS and Wisconsin Public Radio to bring public radio to rural communities in northern Wisconsin.

The tower project receives $521,700 in general fund supported borrowing funds.

The project to renovate two of the residential halls at UWS receives nearly $15.3 million in program revenue supported borrowing.

Other state projects planned for 2011-2013 in northern Wisconsin include $2.3 million for housing replacement in St. Croix County; $643,600 for a public entrance and visitors station improvements at Amnicon Falls State Park; $2 million for headquarter and campus improvements at Flambeau River State Forest; nearly $3 million for a Department of Transportation project to construct three communication towers and buy equipment for sites in Vilas, Bayfield and Ozaukee counties; and $250,000 for the Lac du Flambeau cultural center.
