The Superior Fillies 16U team successfully defended their 16 and under division of the Lake Superior Classic Girls Fastpitch tournament over the weekend.

The Superior Fillies 16U team successfully defended their 16 and under division of the Lake Superior Classic Girls Fastpitch tournament over the weekend.

The Fillies did outstanding at the plate, led by Emily Eisenmann with a .632 batting average and 12 RBIs in their six games.

Chelsey Jarzin and Britnee Blake each finished with a .500 batting average, Anna Pettingill batted .470, and Fillie rookies Alayna Moe and Lindsay Leksell both batted .421 for the weekend.

Aleeah Baker was also impressive with her first pitching starts as a Fillie, and Lindsay Garay pitched a solid championship game.

"The girls came together as a team this weekend," coach Rick Eisenmann said. "We have great veterans who have show leadership to help with all of our new faces and rookies. (Ashlee) Olson, Jarzin, Blake and Eisenmann not only had a good weekend at the plate, they also played outstanding in the field."

The Fillies defeated the Hermantown Inferno in game one, 16-1. Jarzin, Blake and Leksell had two hits each. Janine Seifert and Jarzin also collected four RBIs each for Superior, and Baker had the pitching win with one strikeout and no walks.

St. Francis defeated Superior in game two, 5-2. Jarzin, Eisenmann and Pettingill each got two hits for the Fillies. Baker took the loss, striking out four and walking none while giving up five hits.

Superior got back in the win column in the third game, defeating Roseville 16-8. A number of Fillie players did well at the plate in the game. Getting three hits were Jarzin, Blake and Moe. Olson, Eisenmann and Leksell had two hits apiece. Baker picked up the win, striking out two and walking three while giving up seven hits.

The Fillies gave another dominant performance in game four, defeating Cooper-Armstrong 11-1. Moe tallied four hits in the match, and Jarzin, Pettingill and Janelle Strewler had three hits each. Baker picked up the win again, with two strikeouts and no walks while allowing two hits.

In the fifth game, Superior defeated Minnesota, 11-5. Blake collected three hits and Eisenmann had two hits and five RBIs. Garay had a home run and earned a save, getting two strikeouts. Baker got the pitching win, striking out two and walking two.

In the championship game, the Fillies defeated New Prague 5-1. Eisenmann had three hits and Leksell added two hits for Superior. Garay chipped in with a home run and three RBIs and also got the pitching win, striking out four and walking none while allowing six hits.

Also on the Fillies team are Claire Nelson and Anna Morgan.

The Wisconsin State Babe Ruth Tournament will be hosted by Superior July 5 through July 8. Age groups 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U will play in the tournament.
