The Superior Cathedral Panthers had to rally twice to overcome leads, but defeated the Northwestern Tigers 20-13 in a high school football game. Fullback Mike Machones scored for the Panthers on 1 and 2-yard plunges and the climax came on a 70-yard pass play with quarterback Mark Parenteau on the throwing end and end Dennis VanMassenhove on the catching end. Tiger halfback Frank Olson stunned the Panthers with a 66-yard TD run and quarterback Brandt Hannula gave the Tigers a 13-7 halftime lead with a 15-yard pass to end Don Leighton. (1967)
Freshman Pat Paquette of Superior suffered a knee injury in the University of Minnesota football scrimmage. He is in a cast and will be out for the year if surgery is required. (1976)
The 4-0 Superior Spartans are ranked No. 1 in the state high school football poll. The Spartans have scored 84 points while holding the opposition to a total of 20 points. (1980)
