St. Thomas scored two final-period goals and another in overtime to defeat the UWS Yellowjackets 5-4. Captain Steve Anderson led the 'Jackets with two goals and single goals were netted by Jon Wojciechowski and Ralph Worthing. (1975)
A whirlwind offense, overwhelming rebounding power and balanced scoring were features of the 101-64 basketball win turned in by the UW-Superior Yellowjackets in a season-opener against the Northland College Lumberjacks. The Ashland team concentrated on stopping Superior's Brad Brunken, who was the top scorer (18 points) in the UWS varsity-alumni clash last week, but other 'Jackets came through with points. Jim Happ fired in 24 counters, Monte Denard added 22, Ivory Jones hit for 17 and Mike Stack added 12. Most of the Lumberjack scoring punch came from John Coy, with 14 points, and Rob Reader, with 11. Senior defenseman Todd Dahl scored the winning goal with 46 seconds left in the game to give the University of Wisconsin-Superior hockey team a 6-5 nod over St. Mary's College of Winona, Minn. The 5-1 UWS Yellowjackets also got goals from Bob Ritzer, Merit Waldrop, Brian Maciejewski, Ken Henning and Kevin Mattila. (1981)
