The YMCA rifle team won its first match of the season over the Cloquet High School A team 1,816-1,744. Shooting for Superior were: Dale Nelson, 372; Tom Hammerbeck, 370; Scott Jensen, 364; Buddy Estralla, 360; and Erick Flood, 350. (1980)
The sixth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjacket hockey team brought respect back to Wessman Arena when it upset the NAIA top-ranked Bemidji State Beavers 6-2. John Robinson and Casey VanDamme each scored two UWS goals and single goals were scored by Mark Baker and Todd Dahl. UWS improves to 9-8-2 and Bemidji State falls to 14-4. (1981)
Freshmen Dan Stauber and Mike Swanson each scored two goals to power the UW-Superior hockey team past UW-Stevens Point 7-3. The win improved the Yellowjackets to 5-1-8 in the Wisconsin State University Conference standings. (1985)
