Scott Sommer scored the winning field goal as his St. Patrick's team nipped previously unbeaten Central Junior 40-39 to take the championship of the Superior Hoop Club Seventh-Eighth Grade Invitational Basketball Tournament. Neil O'Shaughnessy led the winners with 13 points. Mike Charbonneau, the top scorer of the tournament, paced Central with 24 counters. Pattison captured third place with a 51-45 trimming of Solon Springs. Brian Midbon put 24 points in the scorebook and Steve Rankila added 19 for the winners. Todd Lavine found the range for 18 Solon Springs points and Joe Slivensky collected 13. (1979)
Nikki Wiechert left the game early on fouls, but still scored 10 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and made four steals to help power the Superior Senior High School girls basketball team to a 42-24 domination of the Denfeld Hunters. JoAnn Betterman scored nine points for the Spartans and Theresa Lisak added eight. (1979)
