Superior East sewed up the title in the Head of the Lakes Junior High School Basketball League by trouncing Superior Central 83-49. East posted its ninth win of an undefeated season and handed Central its second loss in 10 starts, both to East. Mike Swanson paced the winners with 21 points. Marty Wiitala scored three goals and had two assists to run his season scoring total to 59 points as the Superior Senior High School hockey team defeated Hermantown 7-4. The Spartans improved their season record to 13-1, while the Hawks slipped to 8-6-1 for the season. (1982)
