The Superior High School baseball team improved to 8-1 on the season with a pair of wins Monday evening at Wakanda Park in Menomonie.

The Spartans won the opener 4-2 then rallied from a 9-1 deficit to win 10-9 and complete the non-conference doubleheader sweep.

Trailing 9-1 after five innings in game two, the Spartans scored five runs in the sixth inning then four more in the seventh to win their eighth straight game.

Grant Rindal came through twice for the Spartans in picking up the win.

The freshman got the final out in Menomonie's six-run second inning and threw scoreless third and fourth innings.

After a Spartan pitching change and three more Menomonie runs, Superior went to Rindal again and he kept the Indians scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Spartans' rally started in the sixth inning as they scored five runs with two outs. Marty Manion hit a two-run single, Taylor Olson hit an RBI single and Justin Andrews and Kellen McCoshen walked with the bases loaded.

The Spartans completed the rally with a four-run seventh inning that was delayed about 15 minutes because of rain.

Nick Sitek walked and scored on an error off the bat of Holcombe, Rob Dembroski walked with the bases loaded, McCoshen plated a run with a sacrifice fly and Olson, who moved to third on McCoshen's fly to left field, scored the eventual winning run on a wild pitch.

Rindal then preserved the win by striking out the final batter looking.

Superior had 11 hits in the second game, two each by McCoshen, Ramage and Manion and one each by Olson, Dembroski, Rindal, Holcombe and Kyle Wilander.

Ramage was the winning pitcher in the opener, allowing one earned run on five hits, three walks and four strikeouts. The junior retired the first eight batters he faced.

Superior had six hits, three by McCoshen, two by Olson and a double by Sitek.
