The Superior High School boys hockey team lost to the Eau Claire Memorial Old Abes 5-3 in the third-place game of the 3rd annual Red Flint Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Hobbs Ice Arena in Eau Claire.
After the Old Abes scored four first-period goals, the Spartans answered with a pair of power-play goals in period two.
Aaron Miller got Superior on the board with a 5-on-3 power-play goal, and Daniel Mikel scored while the Spartans were skating with a 5-on-4 advantage.
Anthony Bronson's goal got Superior within 4-3 in the third period.
The Old Abes sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.

The Spartans opened its season with a 6-1 loss to the Green Bay Notre Dame Tritons Saturday evening in semifinals.
Superior hosts Rice Lake at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Duluth East at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Trailing 3-0, Beau Reder scored the Spartans' only goal on a power play with 20 seconds remaining in the opening period. Bryan Bergstrom and Grant Hanson picked up the assists.
The Tritons added a power-play goal in the second period and two more goals in the third to advance to Saturday's championship game at 2 p.m. against the winner of the ECM-Wausau West game.
The Spartans will play the loser in the third-place game at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Paxton Paine had 20 saves for Superior and Eli Hicks had 18 for Notre Dame.
Only five minor penalties were called, including three on Superior.
