Spartan spikers sweep Rails; Tigers fall at Hurley

The Superior High School volleyball team opened its season with a 3-0 win over Proctor Thursday night in the SHS gym. The Spartans won by scores of 25-10, 25-20, 25-10.

The Superior High School volleyball team opened its season with a 3-0 win over Proctor Thursday night in the SHS gym. The Spartans won by scores of 25-10, 25-20, 25-10.

The Spartans were led by Ali Wainionpaa, 15 set assists and four digs; Jessica Lindstrom, seven kills and three blocks; Taylor Johnson, four ace serves; and Dani Magdzas, eight kills and four set assists.

The Spartans are back in action at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Marshfield Invitational.

Tigers fall

Hurley defeated Northwestern 3-1 (18-25, 27-25, 25-17, 25-23) Thursday night in Hurley.

Ally May had 13 kills and nine digs, and Aliex Friend had 16 sets assists for Northwestern.

The Tigers are at Spooner on Sept. 8.
