The Superior High School golf team finished in second place in the Lake Superior Conference's final standings. The final 18 holes of the four-round event took place Wednesday at Ashland's Chequamegon Bay Golf Course.
Hermantown won the boys team title with a combined score of 618. Superior was second at 659 and Cloquet was third, 668.
Superior's Joel Pettingill finished in second place overall and was named to all-conference first team. The senior carded rounds of 36 and 34 on Wednesday. Hermantown's Andrew Oakes finished in first place overall.
Other Spartan scores in Ashland were: Rob Kraft, 41-38; Andy Heytens, 39-39; Mitch Kontny, 42-44; Ethan Anderson, 44-44; and Chris Rochon, 46-44.
Superior will next host the WIAA Division 1 Region 1 tournament Tuesday at the Nemadji Golf Course. Joining the Spartans will be Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire Memorial, Eau Claire North, Hudson, Menomonie, New Richmond and River Falls.

The top four teams and two four individuals who are not members of a qualifying team advance to the sectional tournament June 1 in Marshfield.
