Doubles matches have been a strong point for the Superior High School girls tennis team recently. On Monday, the Spartans took on the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers and won 4-3, claiming all three doubles matches.
"This was a huge win for us; this is our first time beating Marshall since I have been coaching girls tennis," said SHS head coach Pete Conley. "This was some of the best tennis I have seen our doubles teams play in years."
Rikki Berchild and Carly Connor needed a tiebreaker to take the first set at No. 1 doubles, but the duo came away with the 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 victory. At No. 2 doubles, Amanda Peterson and Chelsea Breimon easily dispatched their opponents, as did Christine Johnstad and Sarah Nikstad and in the No. 3 spot.
"Our doubles teams are playing with much more confidence," Conley said. "They are getting used to each other on the court and playing with much more intensity."
Picking up the remaining point for Superior was Jillisa Gallindo in No. 4 singles.

"We finally came together as a team in this match. All of our players were supporting the players on the court," Conley said. "This was a big win, but we must remember that we still have work to do."
