The Superior High School girls hockey team Superior now has a 5-4 overall record after defeating New Richmond 4-3 on Saturday.

Spartan head coach Scott VanDamme said the game wasn't as close as the score made it seem.

"It was an opportunity for inexperienced kids to get a chance to play," VanDamme said.

The Spartans scored early in the first period, just 29 seconds into the game, but New Richmond also scored to time the game at one going into the second period.

In the second period, Taylor VanDamme scored two goals for SHS and Amanda LeBard added another to put the Spartans up for good. New Richmond scored two goals in the final period, but SHS came away with the win.
