The Superior High School girls basketball team lost its home opener on Saturday as they fell 62-48 to the Eau Claire North Huskies.
In the first half was neck and neck with the two teams tied at 29 going into halftime. The second half belonged to the Huskies, though as they outscored the Spartans 33-19.
Shannon Lehikoinen, Lindsey Lindstrom and Laura Amys all scored in double figures for the Spartans with 18,15 and 10 points, respectively. Taylor Kosey also chipped in for SHS with five points.
The Spartans are at Rice Lake at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Spartans defeat Stars
The Spartan girls hockey team defeated the Eau Claire/Altoona Stars 3-1 on Saturday at the Superior Ice Arena.

SHS took the early lead as Taylor VanDamme scored at 12:03, assisted by Ashlee Olson and Emily Eisenmann. Olson then made it 2-0 in favor of the Spartans with an unassisted, short-handed goal at the 10:09 mark.
In the third period the Stars scored their only goal of the match 14:41 into the period to make it 2-1. The Stars pulled their goalie to try to tie the game in the final minutes, but Superior took advantage of the empty net as VanDamme scored her second goal with just 16 seconds remaining in the game to give the Spartans the 3-1 win.
Janine Seifert got the win in goal for the Spartans and had 17 saves on the night.
The Spartans host Silver Bay at 8 p.m. Thursday.

ECM skates past SHS
The Superior High School boys hockey team fell to 1-1 on the season with a 5-1 loss Saturday at Eau Claire Memorial.
The Old Abes scored the only goal of the first period as Jefferson Dahl tallied short-handed. They added three more goals in the second for a 4-0 lead as Seth Soley scored twice and Ben Kincaid once.
The Spartans cut the lead to 4-1 at 6:40 of the third period on Sean Graskey's goal with an assist from Vance Plunkett .
ECM sealed the victory with a goal by Isaiah Bennis.
"They are a very good team from top to bottom," SHS coach Jason Kalin said. "I feel we match up with them well, but it came down to who wanted it more and that was them."

Kyle Johnson had 30 saves for Superior and Brady Sand 27 for ECM.
"The thing I'm disappointed in the most is that we had a very good week of practice and the boys were looking forward to the game," Kalin said. "But we just weren't ready to play."
The Spartans host New Richmond at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
