The Superior High School dance team is headed to the state competition for the third year in a row.

The SHS dancers competed in the Wisconsin Association Of Cheer/Pom Coaches (WACPC) Western Regional Dance Competition at Eau Claire North High School Saturday in both the kick and jazz categories. The Spartans placed first in kick with 426 points and finished second of 10 teams in the jazz competition. The top three teams in both events qualified for the state meet.

The state dance competition is Saturday at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse. This season marks just the fourth year the Spartans have danced as a competitive squad, but Superior has advanced to state in three of those four years.

Casey Carlson is the head coach of the dance team. Team members are: Catherine Albrecht, Megan Berg, Carly Connor, Alyson Franks, Kelsey Krob, Anessa Lawrence, Danielle Lundgren, Alyssa Maki, Lacey Olson, Savanna Paulson, Chaila Runions, Jessica Sajec, Rachael Schimenek, Lindsey Sommer, Monika Sziron, Astrid Valley and Megan Malyuk. Connor, Berg and Schimenek serve as team captains this season.

The Spartan cheer team is also headed to state after a strong performance at its regional championships in Wisconsin Rapids Saturday. The SHS cheer team placed third among small Division 1 schools with its stunting routine and tied with Oconto Falls for first place in the dance only category.
