Solon Springs school district hired back its interim superintendent Oct. 29.
Fred Schlichting quit the position as part-time superintendent in September while he retired from his full-time position as an administrator for Cooperative Educational Service Agency No. 12.
Schlichting took one month off between retiring from CESA 12 and accepting a long-term part-time position at Solon Springs. He had been working as the district administrator part time since July.
Both the school board and Schlichting took the time to evaluate how the part-time arrangement was working out for both Schlichting and the district.
From July to September he worked about one day per week in the Solon Springs district. Principal Sue Chandler managed many of the district's day-to-day operations.

The arrangement seems to be working well. Schlichting will continue working in the district part-time until spring when the board will again decide how to proceed. Additional superintendent candidates may be available for the position then, said George Fairfield, board president.
Solon Springs school district is saving money by having a part-time superintendent. The district has already used some of the savings to fix the school's roof.
The district is under some budgetary constraints now, he said.
Prior to hiring Schlichting, Solon Springs had a full-time superintendent in Gary Frankiewicz who left the district in June to take the position of superintendent with the Fall Creek School District.
