Ryne Slivensky's 24 points and 12 rebounds led the Solon Springs boys basketball team to a 63-55 win over Butternut-Glidden Tuesday night at home.
The Eagles, now 10-7 overall and 8-6 in the Indianhead Conference, also got 15 points from Jake Coughlin.
"Sly, again, was unstoppable and played very smart basketball while Kyle Polzin held their leading scorer to just five points in the second half," SSHS coach Matt Berger said.
Solon Springs trailed 15-9 after one quarter and 29-28 at the half. But the Eagles outscored B-G 18-10 and 17-16 in the third and fourth quarters to pull out the win.
"B-G came out smoking," Berger said. "They hit some shots early, but we contested more second-half shots and took care of the boards to gradually pull away."
Butternut-Glidden (1-17, 1-15) got 16 points from Catlin Griffin and 10 apiece from Kyle Hall and Justin Robinson.
The Eagles are back in action at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Drummond.
Eagle girls fall by two
The Solon Springs High School girls basketball team led for much of the first half Tuesday night, but Frederic claimed the lead in the third quarter and went on to win, 49-47.
SSHS started off with an 18-point first quarter to take the early 18-11 advantage. Kate Klinzing had 10 of the Eagles' points in the quarter. Frederic made up some ground in the second quarter, but SSHS still led 22-19 at the half.
In the third quarter, Frederic found its offense, outscoring Solon Springs 15-8 to take a four-point lead into the final quarter.
The Eagles did not make a free throw until the fourth quarter, but in that quarter they went 9-for-13 at the line. Frederic was also strong from the line, though, hitting 8-of-12 to hold on for the 49-47 victory.
Klinzing led all players with 21 points, and Salann Gilbert added 12 points for the Eagles.
The Eagles will host Bayfield at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
